My mother-in-law is 94 years of age and has health problems.

My mother-in-law is 94 years of age and has health problems, among them the inability to sleep for days at a time. She is constantly sleep deprived. Her sons are afraid to ask her to stop driving. Is there anything that can be done? I am afraid for her safety and the safety of others.

You are certainly right to be concerned, as fall-asleep crashes are very dangerous.  The injuries in such crashes are often more serious than those involved in an alcohol-related crash!

Not only can lack of sleep affect driving abilities, it can affect a host of other functions.  AAA recommends that she consult her physician about her sleeping challenges as soon as possible.
